Public Works Mobilizes Snow Clearing Equipment With Possibility Of Snow Looming

With some forecasts showing chances for snow early next week, the Des Moines Public Works is not taking any chances.

The Public Works team at the Supply Yard is spending the next several days equipping 100+ pieces of snow removal equipment with front plows, side plows and salt spreaders.

"Particularly the first time we have snow in the forecast, we want to get prepared early," Deputy Public Works Director Adam Smith said. "Even if it's a small chance, this means we'll be prepared if snow does materialize instead of being delayed getting our trucks ready to hit the streets clearing snow."

Snow removal for the City of Des Moines is a collaborative process with over 200 equipment operators from City Departments including Public Works, the WRA and Parks and Recreation
