Resident Input Requested For Fiscal Year 2024 Budget

Prior to developing a preliminary budget for fiscal year 2024, the City of Des Moines invites its residents and business community members to get involved in the planning process.

Those interested in participating have a few ways to be heard this month:

Online

Visit DSM.city/budget to watch a video presentation about the FY24 budget process and submit your questions and feedback virtually to Finance Department staff. The webpage also provides a handful of informational resources that cover the budget timeline, property taxes, the City’s fund structure, Local Option expenditures, and American Rescue Plan Act commitments from City Council.

In-person

Attend one of the informal budget listening post events over the next two weeks to learn about the process and meet with City Finance Department staff, the City Manager and elected officials. Events have been scheduled in each of Des Moines’ four wards.

To share your budget priorities, visit DSM.city/government to find contact information for your elected representatives serving on the Des Moines City Council.

Fiscal year 2024 begins July 1, 2023 and ends June 30, 2024. Following the development of the City Manager’s recommended budget in January 2023, official public hearings will be held at City Council meetings in January, February and March. A certified budget is due to the Polk County Auditor’s Office by March 31, 2023.
