Drake University commencement ceremony set for Saturday in the Knapp Center

Drake University will hold its 153rd commencement ceremony Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. in the Knapp Center, located at 2525 Forest Avenue in Des Moines. The University will confer more than 300 degrees during the ceremony. 

Nicole Hunter, who is receiving her master’s degree in culturally responsive leadership and instruction from Drake’s School of Education, will deliver the student remarks. Hunter is one of 45 Des Moines Public Schools teachers receiving a master’s degree Saturday as part of the BLUE (Building Leaders in Urban Education) program. BLUE is a partnership between Drake University and Des Moines Public Schools designed to develop teachers to meet the challenges and opportunities characteristic of a diverse, urban school district.

Mark Ernst, BN’80, chair of the Drake University Board of Trustees, will deliver the call to order, and Drake University President Marty Martin will preside over the commencement ceremony. The ceremony will conclude with remarks from alumnus Thomas Florian, BN’14, BN’16, who will welcome Drake’s most recent graduates into a network of more than 75,000 Drake alumni around the world.

The University will stream the event at live.drake.edu. Free parking is available in campus lots during the ceremony. More information on December commencement, including directions to campus, can be found on the Registrar’s web page.
