A Burlington man was sentenced on July 30, 2024, to 150 months in federal prison for the distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, between October 2022 and October 2023, Michael Bernard Hicks Jr., 27, distributed over three kilograms of methamphetamine in the southeast Iowa area to confidential informants and undercover officers. All of Hicks’ distributions were carried out while he was on probation for a state of Iowa conviction for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

After completing his term of imprisonment, Hicks will be required to serve five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. This case was investigated by the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force and the Iowa Department of Safety Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
