A Burlington man has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography. On March 13, 2025, David Enrique Remigio, aged 30, received a sentence of 192 months following the discovery of files containing child sexual abuse material linked to him.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children initially flagged the case through a CyberTip, identifying an account associated with Remigio. During a search of his residence, law enforcement seized his cellular phone. A forensic examination revealed that Remigio used the device to receive 143 images and 265 videos of child sexual abuse material.
Upon completing his prison term, Remigio will serve a five-year supervised release period. The federal system does not offer parole. Additionally, he has been ordered to pay $39,000 in restitution.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative by the Department of Justice launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute individuals exploiting children online and rescue victims.
