Major law enforcement organizations have expressed support for the Senate Judiciary Committee's provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill. These provisions, announced by Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), aim to bolster national security and public safety through significant investments.
The National Association of Police Organizations highlighted the role of state and local officers in addressing threats from non-citizen offenders and immigration violators. They emphasized that "the Senate Judiciary Committee title of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on immigration and law enforcement grants state and local law enforcement the necessary resources and latitude to work with their federal partners."
The Major County Sheriffs of America acknowledged the $10 billion allocation for state and local assistance as part of the Senate budget reconciliation package. This funding supports partnerships like Operation Stonegarden, aiding efforts to apprehend criminal aliens and enhance court operations. The organization noted that these provisions "demonstrate strong federal commitment to supporting sheriffs and the communities we serve."
Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association praised Senator Grassley's leadership amid current challenges such as border security and the fentanyl crisis. They urged Congress to continue supporting law enforcement recruitment and retention, stating, "We stand with Senator Grassley...and we urge Congress to take further action."
Lastly, the National Council of Prison Locals 33 voiced support for increased funding for staffing and infrastructure, recognizing Senator Grassley's efforts in including these provisions.
