Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's 3rd congressional district, recently highlighted several legislative initiatives aimed at supporting Iowans through a series of posts on his social media account.

On August 22, 2025, Nunn addressed the issue of housing affordability in rural Iowa, stating: "The dream of homeownership is out of reach for too many Iowans. We're leading the biggest overhaul of USDA's housing program in more than two decades to cut red tape, reduce costs, and streamline construction of new housing projects in Iowa's rural communities." The proposed changes would be the most significant reforms to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) housing program since the early 2000s and are intended to make it easier for residents in rural areas to access affordable housing.

The following day, August 23, 2025, Nunn shared details from a recent discussion at the Iowa State Fair with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and radio host Simon Conway. In his post he said: ".@SteveScalise and I sat down with @RealSimonConway last week at the Iowa State Fair to get into the details of how the Big Beautiful Bill delivers for Iowans.

Unleashes American energy

Extends the Trump Tax Cuts

Eliminates taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security" The "Big Beautiful Bill" appears to include provisions focused on tax relief and energy policy that align with ongoing national debates about taxation and energy independence.

Later that same day, Nunn posted about efforts to support young farmers entering agriculture: "Young people shouldn’t need to fight through 3 years of red tape to start farming. I introduced a bipartisan bill to cut the USDA’s experience requirement from 3 years to 1—so the next generation can start building their farms right in our communities." This proposal seeks to lower barriers for young people interested in farming by reducing federal experience requirements for new entrants.

Nunn has served as a member of Congress since January 2023. The issues he raised reflect ongoing concerns among rural communities about affordable housing access and generational turnover in agriculture. According to recent reports from local organizations and federal agencies, both homeownership rates and farm succession have become pressing challenges across Iowa’s rural counties in recent years.
