Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) appeared on Fox News' “America Reports” to address recent revelations about the Federal Bureau of Investigation's surveillance of eight Republican senators during the Arctic Frost investigation. Grassley discussed how he became aware of the FBI’s actions and the subsequent steps taken to inform his colleagues.
“I first found out about [the targeting of Republican senators] last Thursday, and arranged a meeting for my colleagues, eight of them, to be briefed by the FBI [yesterday]. They were totally shocked that Jack Smith, at the time that he was prosecuting Trump … solicited the phone numbers and who they talked to from these eight senators," Grassley said during the interview.
He further stated: “It’s a violation of privacy. We’re getting the FBI to get us further information. They said they’d give us more information by the end of the week. Then I'll have to decide what I'm going to do. I think I have a reputation for following the facts where they lead us and getting to a conclusion.”
Grassley explained that information regarding the Arctic Frost investigation came from a whistleblower within the agency. “Information [on the Arctic Frost investigation] was given to us by a whistleblower. So, it just shows you how important it is [for] people [in] lower levels in the FBI to squeal on people that were violating the law and breaking all FBI rules to get this information,” he noted.
Grassley emphasized his commitment to investigating these matters thoroughly: “You can be certain that, with Chuck Grassley’s reputation of following the facts where they lead us, we’re not going to leave a stone unturned.”
