Two years after the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) joined Senators Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), John Fetterman (D-Pa.), and all Senate Republicans in supporting a bipartisan resolution. The resolution condemns Iran-backed Hamas terrorists and calls for an outcome to the conflict that ensures Israel's continued existence.
The senators urged the release of all remaining hostages, including the remains of two U.S. citizens, and expressed support for preventing Hamas from reestablishing itself in the region.
Senator Grassley stated, "The October 7th terrorist attack against Israel was the single deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. It was shocking and disgusting. Senate Republicans are sending a clear message that the United States will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel, especially as antisemitism continues to rise across the globe."
Senator Ernst added, "Two years ago today, I awoke in the Middle East to horrific news – Israel was under attack by Iran-backed Hamas and Americans had been killed and taken hostage. I immediately traveled into Israel to stand with our ally against Iran-backed terror. Since then, I traveled to the region seven times and met with our Middle East partners to bring our hostages home and end the war. Now that President Trump has restored American leadership on the world stage, I have renewed optimism and will continue to support his peace through strength vision, so another October 7 never happens."
The resolution is cosponsored by numerous Republican senators from across the country.
Senator Grassley has consistently supported efforts to strengthen U.S.-Israel relations. Since October 2023, he has led legislative initiatives reaffirming Israel’s right to self-defense, opposing actions by Iran’s government linked to terrorism, and advocating for justice for victims of antisemitism.
