Iowa Sheriff Robert Rotter has been nominated to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Iowa. The nomination received endorsements from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa).

“I’m proud to endorse Robert Rotter to be U.S. Marshal for Iowa’s Northern District,” Grassley said. “I was glad to join Senator Ernst in recommending Sheriff Rotter for the position, and I thank President Trump for taking our recommendation. With over three decades of experience in state and local law enforcement, Sheriff Rotter is an excellent candidate to protect and serve the people of Iowa. He has my enthusiastic support, and as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I'll work to move his nomination forward swiftly.”

“I’m proud to see Iowan Robert Rotter nominated to serve as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Iowa,” Ernst said. “As a longtime sheriff, he’s shown unwavering commitment to protecting Iowans and keeping our communities safe. I’m confident he’ll bring the same dedication and integrity to this new role once he is confirmed.”

The nomination will next be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee before moving on to a vote by the full Senate.

Rotter is currently in his fifth term as Sheriff of Iowa County, bringing more than 30 years of experience in state and local law enforcement. He was Iowa County’s first K9 officer and holds certifications in areas such as technical traffic accident investigations, active shooter training, underwater diving, and jail administration. Additionally, he has completed extensive training with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

During his tenure as sheriff, Rotter led initiatives including a program aimed at safely disposing expired or unused medications to prevent drug misuse within the community. He also started an active shooter training program that provided instruction to over 1,500 students, teachers, industrial workers, and retail employees across Iowa County.
