Senator Grassley completes annual tour of all 99 Iowa counties

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has completed his 45th annual tour of Iowa’s 99 counties, marking more than four decades of holding at least one meeting in each county every year. The final stops for this year’s series took place in Kossuth County, where Grassley toured Country Maid in West Bend and held a question-and-answer session with employees. Earlier that day, he met with constituents in Akron, Sheldon, and Rock Rapids.

Grassley uses these meetings to hear directly from Iowans about their concerns on various topics such as health care, agriculture, energy policy, tax laws, trade, biofuels, immigration and more. Attendees at this year’s sessions expressed support for increased transparency and bipartisanship in Washington.

“Representative government is a two-way street. I’m one half of the process, and the people of Iowa are the other. My 99 county meetings allow me to meet with a large cross-section of Iowans from different walks of life, including students, manufacturers, health care providers and more. These meetings guide my policy priorities in Washington, and I appreciate the chance to meet with my constituents face-to-face and hear their concerns. Since I’m not able to meet with over three million Iowans individually, I always encourage people to share their views by writing a letter, sending an email, or calling or stopping by one of my offices,” Grassley said.

“My leadership to strengthen rural health care, bring transparency to fertilizer pricing and reduce prescription drug costs all stem from my meetings with Iowans,” Grassley continued. “I look forward to hearing from more Iowans at future question-and-answer sessions as I continue serving our state in the U.S. Senate.”

The senator’s outreach efforts include public town halls as well as visits with local businesses, schools and community groups across Iowa’s urban and rural areas. He makes himself available for questions from local media after each meeting.
