Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's 3rd congressional district, posted a series of statements on November 9, 2025, addressing issues related to the government shutdown, food assistance in Iowa, and a local community event.

In his first post on November 9, Nunn referenced past remarks by prominent Democratic senators regarding government shutdowns. He quoted Bernie Sanders: "Shutting down the government is a serious and dangerous action" (2018), and Chuck Schumer: "We don’t govern by temper tantrum… Hurting millions of Americans who are treated as leverage" (2018). Nunn added that the House GOP passed a bill over a month ago in an effort to prevent the ongoing shutdown.

Later that day, he addressed concerns about food assistance during the shutdown. In his November 9 post at 19:40 UTC, Nunn wrote: "Food assistance is one the line, and Democrats are more worried about maintaining political leverage than Iowa families going hungry. I'm grateful to the communities stepping up to help their neighbors, and we'll keep fighting to end a shutdown that never should have happened."

In a separate message later that evening, Nunn highlighted local community engagement. He stated: "Team Nunn was honored to join the ribbon cutting for the newly restored Frog Creek in Perry this week. The cleanup and new pedestrian bridge will make Pattee Park a better place for families to enjoy Iowa’s great outdoors."

Government shutdowns have historically impacted various public services including nutrition programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), which provides food assistance for low-income individuals and families. Community organizations often mobilize during such periods to provide support when federal aid is disrupted.

Zach Nunn has served as U.S. Representative since January 2023.
