Midwest Truck Productions, located in Cantril, Iowa, has been fined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for alleged tampering with diesel emissions controls.
Midwest Truck Productions is set to pay a $75,000 fine due to installing or selling a "defeat devices" that make emission controls inoperative for hundreds of customers, according to News Channel Nebraska.
"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assessed civil penalties against two companies for installing or selling 'defeat devices' in vehicle engines to render emissions controls inoperative, in violation of the federal Clean Air Act,” the EPA said in an Aug. 31 press release.
Another company, South Central Diesel Inc. of Holdrege, Nebraska, was also fined by the EPA for $50,000, allegedly for the same thing, News Channel Nebraska reported.
Both companies have agreed to stop disabling vehicle emission controls.
The EPA said that this kind of tampering contributes to air pollution, KCRG reported.
