Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's 3rd congressional district, has used his social media platform to comment on recent government actions and the ongoing government shutdown.
On November 8, 2025, Nunn addressed a recent recall affecting infant health. He wrote, "When a baby’s health is in danger, it’s on everyone to act. I spoke with the @US_FDA commissioner this morning about the recall. The administration and Iowa suppliers moved quickly to protect families nationwide, exactly how government and industry should work together."
Later that day, Nunn criticized Senate Democrats for their handling of budget negotiations and their reluctance to support a continuing resolution (CR). He stated on November 8, 2025: "Senate Democrats have made everything from putting food on the table to accessing a farm loan harder because they're too afraid of their radical base to support a clean CR. We've heard it loud and clear from Iowans: end the chaos, open the government."
The following day, November 9, 2025, Nunn commented on the impact of what he referred to as the "Democrat Shutdown." He posted: "It's day 40 of the Democrat Shutdown. Flight delays are impacting thousands of travelers, food benefits are in limbo for millions of Americans, and military families are looking at choosing between filling up the minivan and putting food on the table. The deal is simple. Stop"
The ongoing government shutdown has resulted in disruptions across several sectors. According to reports from October 2023, previous shutdowns have caused significant delays in air travel due to furloughed federal workers and have threatened nutrition assistance programs such as WIC for millions of low-income women and children (https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/28/politics/government-shutdown-impact/index.html). Congressional disagreements over funding measures have also led to uncertainties for farmers regarding access to loans and subsidies.
Nunn's comments reflect broader concerns among Iowa constituents about food security and economic stability during prolonged federal funding gaps.
