Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, shared several updates on social media this week addressing national economic concerns and local issues during his county meetings.

On November 12, Grassley commented on the recent government shutdown, attributing its impact to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. He stated, "Reports point out the longest govt shutdown in history/SCHUMER SHUTDOWN will lv a mark on the economy Lost wages hurts economy + shutdown hits consumer confidence The needless &damaging Schumer Shutdown hurt the American ppl for 43 days & could cause SCHUMER SLUMP in the ECONOMY" (November 12, 2025).

The following day, Grassley reported on a meeting at Cambridge Technologies in Sioux Center as part of his #99countymeetings initiative. In his post he said, "Q&A Cambridge Technologies in Sioux Center 31ppl issues: animal vaccine production and licensing +independent hog producers etc #99countymeetings https://t.co/XzTXBv4T7u" (November 13, 2025).

Later that evening, he also shared a personal note about dining locally: "Dinner: ham & cheese omelet w pancakes and coffee at the Sioux County Livestock Co and it was really good #99countymeetings" (November 13, 2025).

Grassley's references to "the longest govt shutdown in history" align with previous U.S. federal government shutdowns that have had significant economic consequences. Extended shutdowns can lead to lost wages for federal workers and decreased consumer confidence, which can slow economic growth. The Senator's ongoing #99countymeetings reflect his long-standing tradition of visiting every county in Iowa each year to meet with constituents and discuss local issues.
