Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives, recently posted a series of statements on his official X (formerly Twitter) account addressing bipartisan legislative efforts and government operations.
On November 12, 2025, Nunn highlighted progress on new legislation aimed at protecting Iowans from scams. He wrote: "Momentum is building behind our bipartisan GUARD Act to give local law enforcement more advanced tools to protect Iowans from scams — from fake tech support to fraudulent charity appeals."
In a subsequent post on November 13, 2025, Nunn addressed the recent resolution of a government shutdown and called for cooperation across party lines. He stated: "This was never a red or blue issue, this was about working together to open the government for the American people. While I'm glad we finally ended the gridlock, my Democratic colleagues need to understand what their political gamesmanship cost Iowa. I spent this completely"
Later that same day, after participating in a key vote on Capitol Hill, Nunn commented on compensation for federal employees affected by the shutdown. He said: "Just walked off the floor after voting YES on our bill to pay our troops, federal workers, and Capitol police who have been working without getting a paycheck for more than a month. It took long enough, but I’m proud this was a bipartisan effort in both the House and the Senate"
The GUARD Act referenced by Nunn is part of ongoing efforts by Congress to address increasing concerns over fraud schemes targeting consumers through technology-based scams and deceptive charitable solicitations.
Recent months saw prolonged negotiations in Congress leading up to an agreement that reopened federal agencies after an extended shutdown period. During such shutdowns, essential personnel—including military service members and Capitol Police—are often required to work without immediate pay until funding measures are passed.
